How to Link a Nintendo Account to a Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch Console

Steps to connect a Nintendo Account to an existing user on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.

Before you start

Complete These Steps:

  • At any point after you have created a user, select System Settings on the HOME Menu.

  • Scroll down to highlight User, then select the appropriate user to access your User Settings.

  • Select Sign in to a Nintendo Account or Link to a Nintendo Account.

Do you have an existing Nintendo Account or do you need to create a new one?
  • Sign in to your Nintendo Account.

    • If you have forgotten your Nintendo Account sign-in information, click here.

  • Select Link to link your Nintendo Account to the user on the console.

    • Once the Nintendo Account is linked, it can't be unlinked or changed for that user.

  • You will receive a confirmation message that your Nintendo Account is now linked to your user. Select OK to return to the system settings.

  • Select Create a Nintendo Account to set up a new Nintendo Account.

    • Optional - On the following screen, you can request an email with instructions to link to your Nintendo Account using a verification code.

  • Use a smart device to scan the QR Code to visit the Nintendo Account website. If you do not have a smart device, the link is https://accounts.nintendo.com/.

  • Create your Nintendo Account on the Nintendo Account website.

  • Return to your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console and sign in to your Nintendo Account. You may need to press the B Button to return to the sign-in page.

  • You will receive a confirmation message that your Nintendo Account is now linked to your user. Select OK to return to the system settings.

Additional information

Once a Nintendo Account is linked to a user, you will have access to the console's online features.

Each individual player on a Nintendo Switch 2 console can create their own user (up to 8 per console) to manage personal settings and save data.

Linking a Nintendo Account to a user also provides access to the following online features:

  • Online game modes (online multiplayer, global rankings, DLC, etc.)

  • Any applications that require internet access (including Nintendo eShop)

  • The Nintendo Switch Parental Controls smart device application for managing Parental Controls settings

  • Exchanging friend codes with other players
