How to Connect to the Internet on Nintendo Switch 2
Steps to connect a Nintendo Switch 2 console to a wireless or wired internet connection to use online services.
Complete these steps
How are you trying to connect to the internet?
Connecting to a wireless network
Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console within three meters of the wireless router so there will be a strong wireless signal.
Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
Select Internet, then Internet Settings. Your console will automatically search for nearby wireless network signals.
Select the appropriate network name (SSID) from the list.
If you are unable to find your network's name, stand closer to the wireless router and press the Y Button to search again.
If you are still unable to find your network, this may indicate an issue with the wireless network environment.
If the network name is greyed out, this indicates the wireless security type being used is not supported by the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 console supports the following:Wireless Frequencies: 2.4GHz, 5Ghz
Wireless Modes: 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac
Wireless Security Types: WEP, WPA-PSK(AES), WPA2-PSK (AES)
For assistance changing your router security settings, please refer to your router's manual or contact your router manufacturer's support.
Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the network's wireless password, if one is required.
The connection will be tested. Once the test is complete, select OK.
If the connection test fails, an error code and message will appear. Search for our support article on the error code for steps to troubleshoot the connection.
Important: The Nintendo Switch 2 console must be docked to be able to connect to the internet using the wired connection type.
Connecting to a wired network
Connect an Ethernet cable to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock and then connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your router or gateway.
Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console into the dock.
On the console, select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
Select Internet, then Internet Settings. Your console will automatically search for nearby wireless network signals first.
Once the option is available, select Wired Connection.
Select Connect via Wired Connection.
The connection will be tested. Once the test is complete, select OK.
If the connection test fails, an error code and message will appear. These can help you troubleshoot connection errors.
We also recommend setting up a wireless internet connection. This enables you to connect to the internet even when your Nintendo Switch 2 console is not placed in the dock.
